The eligibility criteria to appear in the Indian Patent Agent Exam are as follows:
Qualifying Patent Agent Examination involves two steps:
The written examination consists of two papers:
Paper I – Patent Act and Rules.This is a 100 Marks paper which has objective type questions. The maximum time allowed for this paper is 2 Hours.
Paper II- Drafting and interpretation of Patent Specification and other documents.This paper is also for 100 Marks with questions requiring descriptive answers. The maximum time allowed for this paper is 3 Hours.
Schedule for Viva-Voce examination will be announced after the completion of the written examination. Only those candidates who have scored a minimum of 50% marks in each paper will be allowed to appear for the Viva-Voce. A separate list for the same would be provided.
On successful completion of the above two steps, candidates will get a certificate and a membership number from the Indian Patent Office.
